Terms and Bets at the Track

Each type of betting has its own terms and you must learn these terms so you understand the bet.  In the world of horse racing, there are different types of bets and terms also that are not hard to learn. The across-the-board bet is well known and this is a bet placed for a particular horse to win, place and show.  If your horse wins, you collect three ways, if it comes in second, two ways and if it just shows you will collect one way.

You would place a daily-double bet if you were choosing the winners of two consecutive races. This is generally done for the first and second race of the day. A dead-heat is a term used when two or more horses cross the finish line at the same time.  The camera can usually show the actual winner but it is possible for them to be so close, the camera cannot decide the outcome.

Horse racing was at one time claimed to be the sport of kings and it still ranks up there with football in popularity. As the online horse betting participation grows, there are more and more novice as well as seasoned gamblers trying their luck at the track.
